If ‘yes’, then to be on the safe side, you need to check if your NIN has been successfully linked to your SIM. Here we will provide a guideline on how to check if your NIN has successfully linked to your MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile lines. Recall that the federal government has announced January 19 as a deadline for mobile network users in Nigeria to get National Identification Number (NIN) and link it to their SIM cards. FG give guidelines as schools resumes on monday

The Federal Government, on Thursday, banned overcrowding and large gatherings such as assemblies and visiting days, as schools reopen on Monday. It also put limitations to class sizes and hostel occupancy and asked the schools to ensure compulsory wearing of face masks by all students, teachers and workers, as well ensure temperature checks and put hand washing facilities in strategic locations in all schools The government also asked the school authorities to ensure constant supply of water and sanitisers, and make available functional health clinics with facilities for isolation and transportation of suspected cases to medical facilities. The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, gave the conditions in a statement by the Director of Press in the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong. According to him, the decision to maintain the resumption date is the aftermath of “extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners of education, proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students.” Adamu told parents and the respective institutions to ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols. The statement read in part, “Sequel to the hint given during the press briefing on January 12, 2021 for the review of the proposed resumption date of January 18, 2021, the Federal Ministry of Education has undertaken a comprehensive appraisal of the situation. “After extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners of education, proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students, the consensus of opinion is that the resumption date of January 18 should remain, while parents and respective institutions must ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols. “These measures, which are to ensure safe reopening of schools for academic activities, will be subject to constant review as we urge teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to ensure strict compliance.” When asked how the government intends to curtail further spread of the virus with the planned resumption, Adamu school authorities would be asked to ensure strict compliance with existing and fresh guidelines that would be released. He added, “We shall be warning stakeholders, particularly school authorities to ensure strict compliance with protocols. “For instance, we will have no choice than to enforce compulsory use of face masks by teachers and students. “We will also make it clear that we shall be reviewing the situation from time to time after resumption with a view to taking necessary decisions.” Recall that the United Nations Children’s Fund had called on governments across the world to spare no effort to keep schools open or prioritise them in reopening plans despite the increasing cases of COVID-19.

FRSC explains why NIN is compulsory for vehicle registration, licence renewal

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has explained that the introduction of compulsory provision of the National Identification Number (NIN) by applicants for the National Driver’s License (NDL) is in full compliance with the directives of the Federal Government on the harmonisation of citizens’ data. FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has also made the provision of NIN mandatory for all categories of vehicle registration, effective from the second quarter of 2021. Disclosing that the development was in compliance with a Presidential directive, the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement that all applicants for vehicle registration are expected to present their National Identification Number as a precondition for the registration of their vehicles. Kazeem warned that there would be no waiver for anyone irrespective of their status in the society. The FRSC spokesperson further emphasised that the exercise has become very imperative in view of the critical role a harmonised database on citizens’ information will have on national development in terms of resolving the challenges of identifying individuals to assist security agencies in data collation and speedy retrievals to address critical national security challenges. Kazeem stated that the Corps Marshal also enjoined members of the public who have not enrolled in the ongoing NIN registration at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to make haste while the sun shines as the corps would not register any vehicle whose owner is not captured in the NIMC database. According to the Corps Marshal, “Beginning from the second quarter of this year (2021), if you want to register your vehicle, it is going to be compulsory for you to provide your NIN. This is part of the security checks. “So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps the government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhance adequate Intelligence gathering for security of lives and properties”. In another development, the Corps Marshal, has advised fleet operators, other commercial drivers and patronisers of night trips, including private vehicle owners to desist henceforth from it, emphasising that the journeys which are often characterised by poor visibility, fatigue, sleeping on wheels, excessive speed among others, are not only unsafe, but dangerous. Oyeyemi gave the warning while reacting to some reports of fatal crashes recorded at night at the beginning of the year, which led to the death of several road users and left others with different degrees of injuries. The Corps Marshal lamented that on January 5, 2021 alone, an avoidable fatal crash occurred in Kabba, Kogi State where two vehicles were caught up in a head-on collision as a result of a combination of some factors revealed to be fatigue and sleeping on the steering. The crash involved the driver of a white Toyota Hiace bus ( MSA 942 XA) that contravened COVID-19 protocols on physical distancing by overloading the bus with 18 passengers instead of the prescribed eight, and a green Iveco trailer carrying seven passengers. It was learnt that out of the 25 passengers on board the two vehicles, eight were killed while 17 sustained various injuries. Similarly, while maintaining that crashes that occur at night are more fatal than the ones that happen in the day time, Oyeyemi also recalled that just on January 9, 2021, two vehicles; a white Sienna and a Sharon bus without a number plate were involved in a fatal crash on Akwanga-Keffi road leaving the entire 17 passengers on board burnt beyond recognition. Speaking further, he disclosed that intelligence report revealed that most fleet operators and other vehicle owners, including private vehicle owners, who are addicted to night journeys, do so for selfish economic gains

Why Court dismissed certificate forgery case against Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki Says Plaintiffs failed to prove their allegations By Ikechukwu Nnochiri – Abuja Respite came the way of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Saturday, as the Federal High Court in Abuja, dismissed the certificate forgery case the All Progressives Congress, APC, and one of its members, Mr. Williams Edobor, instituted against him. The court, in a judgment that was delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, held that the Plaintiffs, failed to by way of credible evidence, discharge the burden of proof placed on them by the law. Justice Mohammed said there was no iota of evidence before the court to establish that Obaseki forged either his O’level certificate or the degree certificate that was awarded to him in 1979 by the University of Ibadan. He held that allegation of forgery the Plaintiffs levelled against Obaseki bordered on crime and therefore required to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt. “It is quite known that he who alleges must prove. The burden is on the Plaintiffs to lead credible evidence to indeed prove that the 1st Defendant presented forged certificates to INEC. “None of the witnesses called by the Plaintiffs was able to prove that the certificate was forged. “In fact, the witnesses admitted that none of them visited the University of Ibadan to confirm the authenticity of the certificate. “The Plaintiffs only relied on photocopies that were attached to the Form EC9 the 1st Defendant submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission”, the court noted. It held that apparent discrepancies in the documents Obaseki submitted to INEC, “were satisfactorily explained”. Justice Mohammed further noted that all the witnesses were in agreement that when the original document is photocopied with an A4-sized paper, some information would be cut off. He said the evidence of witnesses Obaseki produced in the course of the hearing, especially that of the Deputy Registrar Legal, at University of Ibadan, Mr. Abayomi Samuel Ajayi, “successfully put to rest the issue of whether or not the embattled governor graduated or was awarded a degree certificate by the school. The court held that for the Plaintiffs to insist that Obaseki forged his certificate, even after the school confirmed the genuity of the document, was akin to alleging that someone has no father, even in the presence of the person’s father. Consequently, it dismissed the suit, though it declined to award cost against the Plaintiffs. The APC had in the suit it jointly filed with one of its members in Edo, Mr. Edobor, alleged that Obaseki forged the University of Ibadan degree certificate he submitted to INEC in aid of his qualification for the governorship election that held in Edo state on September 19, 2020. In the suit marked FHC/B/CS/74/2020, the Plaintiffs equally alleged that there were discrepancies in the subjects that Obaseki claimed he passed in his West African Examination Council (WAEC) exam and subjects in his testimonial. They, among other things, prayed the court to declare that Obaseki’s claim in his INEC form EC9 at column C, sworn to on June 29, 2020 at the Federal Capital Territory High Court Registry to the effect that he obtained from the University of Ibadan in 1979, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Classical Studies, is false and contrary to Section 31 (5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010. As well as an order declaring that Obaseki lied on oath when he swore to an affidavit on June 29, 2020, that he worked in Afrinvest Limited from 1994 to 2014 when he retired. The Plaintiffs urged the court to not only invalidate Obaseki’s candidacy but to also restrain INEC from recognising him as a contestant in the gubernatorial contest. The INEC was listed as the 3rd Defendant in the matter. The Plaintiffs closed their case after they called a total of six witnesses and tendered 17 exhibits before the court, while Obaseki rested his case after he tendered 18 exhibits and produced three witnesses that testified on his behalf. Among exhibits, he tendered before the court included the original copy of the Bachelor of Arts degree certificate that was awarded to him by the University of Ibadan in 1979, which the APC insisted was forged. Other exhibits the embattled governor adduced before the court to prove his qualification, were the School Certificate the West African Examination Council, WAEC issued to him in June 1973, a Higher School Certificate which WAEC also issued to him in 1976, as well as the original copy of his Primary School Certificate issued in July 1971. While PDP which is the 2nd Defendant in the matter, relied on Obaseki’s defence, INEC, said it had no witnesses to call in the matter

South Africa born man became richest person in the world

Elon Musk, the outspoken entrepreneur behind Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, is now the richest person on the planet.

A 4.8% rally in the electric carmaker’s share price Thursday boosted Musk past Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 wealthiest people.

The South Africa-born engineer’s net worth was $188.5 billion at 10:15 a.m. in New York, $1.5 billion more than Bezos, who has held the top spot since October 2017. As chief executive officer of Space Exploration Technologies Corp., or SpaceX, Musk is also a rival to Bezos, owner of Blue Origin LLC, in the private space race.

The milestone caps an extraordinary 12 months for Musk. Over the past year his net worth soared by more than $150 billion in possibly the fastest bout of wealth creation in history. Fueling his rise was an unprecedented rally in Tesla’s share price, which surged 743% last year on the back of consistent profits, inclusion in the S&P 500 Index and enthusiasm from Wall Street and retail investors alike.

Bezos would still hold a wide lead over Musk had it not been for his divorce, which saw him cede about a quarter of his Amazon stake to his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, and his philanthropy. He donated shares worth about $680 million in November.

Foreign reaction to the "disgraceful scenes" at the U.S. Capitol

America's adversaries revelled and allies shook their heads in dismay at the assault on the heart of U.S. democracy on Wednesday. Many foreign leaders noted the United States' centuries-long role as a bastion of self-rule by a free population. Some suggested that vaunted position had been diminished and urged a rapid return to it, and several placed the blame for the chaos squarely on President Donald Trump. Russia and Iran offered predictable ridicule of U.S. democracy – a theme both countries have fallen back on for years, but damning commentary from close allies in Europe showed there was real shock among America's global partners at the level of bitter division within the country, and the driving force many see behind it. Below is a sample of the commentary from world leaders, senior diplomats, and state-run media outlets, which will be updated: China: "We believe that the American people want safety and tranquillity, especially in the severe situation of the current epidemic, we also hope that the American people can enjoy peace, stability and security as soon as possible," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying. An editorial column posted by China's state-run foreign news outlet CGTN on Thursday gloated on behalf of the Communist Party, blaming not just Mr. Trump, but the entire American political system and both parties that lead it for the unrest. U.S. politicians' "neverending campaigning seems to have turned them into soundbite-making machines who forget their actual job descriptions (sic) is to solve problems, not keeping their position in Washington at the expense of everybody outside of it," CGTN charged. Coming from a country where free speech is an unknown luxury and dissent is quashed, quickly, by force, the rebuke may ring hollow in the West. But America's most potent adversary will no doubt seize the opportunity in the days ahead to remind its own population of more than 1 billion of the inherent pitfalls of rule by popular mandate. United Kingdom: "Disgraceful scenes in US Congress," British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who Mr. Trump once branded Britain's own "Trump" for his similarly irreverent style and appeal to populist sentiments. "The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power," Johnson said. Iran: "What we saw in the United States last night showed the failure and frailty of Western democracy in the world," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Thursday in his first remarks on the assault on Capitol Hill. "The spread of populism in the United States and the arrival of someone like Trump to power created great problems for America and the world, especially in the Middle East." Germany: Chancellor Angela Merkel said the images from Capitol Hill made her "angry" and "sad." She voiced "regret" that Mr. Trump had refused (until a statement issued later, early Thursday morning by the White House) to in any way accepted his election defeat. But she added that she was "sure U.S. democracy is stronger" than the challenge posed by the rioters at the Capitol, and voiced hope that with the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden and his vice president Kamala Harris, a "new chapter of U.S. democracy" would begin in two weeks. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas noted that democracy's enemies would be cheered by the violence at the Capitol, which he accused Mr. Trump of fueling. "Trump and his supporters must accept the decision of American voters at last and stop trampling on democracy," Maas said in a tweet. Russia: There was a muted reaction from Moscow overnight, which U.S. security agencies have accused of fomenting the division in American society for years. The initial commentary came from Russia's Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, and it could be characterized as smug, at best. "Quite Maidan-style pictures are coming from DC," ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy said on Twitter, referring to 2014 protests in Ukraine that toppled Russian-backed President Viktor Yanukovich. "Some of my friends ask whether someone will distribute crackers to the protesters to echo Victoria Nuland stunt," he mocked, citing a 2013 visit to Ukraine when then-U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland offered food to those who had taken to the streets demanding the pro-Kremlin president step down. Ireland: Foreign Minister Simon Coveney called the scenes in Washington "a deliberate assault on Democracy by a sitting President & his supporters, attempting to overturn a free & fair election," in a tweet. "The world is watching! We hope for restoration of calm," he said. Japan: "We are hoping for a peaceful transfer of power," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato. "We decline to comment on President Trump's political style as this is about U.S. domestic affairs," he added. "But we hope to see democracy in the United States overcome this difficult situation, calmness and harmony regained, and a peaceful and democratic transfer of power." France: "What happened today in Washington DC is not American," French President Emmanuel Macron said in a video message posted on Twitter. "We believe in the strength of our democracies. We believe in the strength of American democracy," he said, speaking in English. Israel: Prime Minister of Benjamin Netanyahu denounced as "disgraceful" what he called a "rampage" at the U.S. Capitol. "I have no doubt that American democracy will prevail," he added. Netanyahu has been one of President Trump's most steadfast global allies, and has seen his own political standing boosted significantly by Mr. Trump's policies in the Middle East, which have diverged sharply from decades of U.S. norms in the tumultuous region. Most notably, Mr. Trump unilaterally recognized Jerusalem — a holy city claimed for decades as a capital both by Jewish Israelis and Palestinians — as the capital of Israel, and he moved the U.S. Embassy to it. Netanyahu spoke on Thursday just ahead of a meeting with visiting U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. Turkey: Speaker of the National Assembly Mustafa Sentop said his country had followed the events in Washington "with concern" and he urged calmness. "We believe that problems will always be solved within law and democracy. As Turkey, we have always been in favor of the law and democracy and we recommend it to everyone," he said in a tweet. Australia: Prime Minister Scott Morrison, a conservative who has maintained good ties with the Trump administration, described the scenes in Washington as "distressing," but noted Mr. Trump's eventual call for his backers at the Capitol to leave. "We condemn these acts of violence and look forward to a peaceful transfer of Government to the newly elected administration in the great American democratic tradition," he said on Twitter. "I think what we've seen in the United States is terribly distressing, terribly concerning, and I noted the president's message this morning to tell people to go home peacefully," Morrison told reporters on Thursday. "I hope that's what people are doing and this is a very distressing time in the United States and I feel terribly for what's happening there." "This is one of the world's greatest democracies, and it remains so because of its forbearance and its persistence in the principles and values upon which the nation was established and I have no doubt that that will prevail." Canada: "American democratic institutions are strong and hopefully everything will return to normal shortly," Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said during a radio interview. Sweden: Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, in a tweet, described the scenes as "an attack on democracy." "President Trump and many members of Congress bear significant responsibility for what's now taking place," he said late Wednesday night. "The democratic process of electing a president must be respected." Norway: "This is an unacceptable attack on the U.S. democracy," Prime Minster Erna Solberg posted on Twitter. "President Trump is responsible for stopping this. Scary images, and unbelievable that this is happening in the United States." United Nations: U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was "saddened" by the events at the U.S. Capitol, his spokesman said. "In such circumstances, it is important that political leaders impress on their followers the need to refrain from violence, as well as to respect democratic processes and the rule of law," U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement. NATO: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Twitter the "shocking scenes in Washington, D.C. The outcome of this democratic election must be respected

Congress certifies Biden win after violent Capitol riot

Congress has now certified President-elect Joe Biden's 2020 election victory, despite a chaotic and deadly scene that erupted after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol and delayed the proceedings.

The joint session of Congress, which is normally a ceremonial step, was halted for several hours when rioters breached the Capitol.

Proceedings resumed at about 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, with Vice President Mike Pence bringing the Senate session back into order.

The Senate and House rejected objections to throw out Georgia and Pennsylvania's electoral votes for Biden. Republicans also objected to Arizona, Nevada and Michigan's electoral votes, but the motions failed before they reached debate.

The Senate voted 93 to 6 to dismiss the objection raised by Republicans to Arizona's results, and 92 to 7 to reject the objection to Pennsylvania.

These are the senators who voted to object to some of the results of the election (and the states they objected to):

  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
  • Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
  • Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
  • Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
  • Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
  • Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy (Arizona)
  • Florida Sen. Rick Scott (Pennsylvania)
  • Wyoming Sen. Cynthia Lummis (Pennsylvania)
  • The House ultimately voted to reject an objection to throw out Pennsylvania's Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden, but over half of the House Republicans backed the effort. The challenge failed by a vote of 282-138.

The GOP House minority leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California, and his deputy, Steve Scalise, were among those seeking to overturn the results

Elijah McClain Case: Activists Push Back Against Motion To Dismiss Family’s Lawsuit Against Colorado City

Last week Aurora, Col., police officers and medics who were sued over the death of Elijah McClain filed to dismiss the litigation. Now activists are saying the filing is unjust and that his family’s lawsuit should continue.

McClain, was a 23-year-old Black man who was stopped by officers who believed he was suspicious, placed in a chokehold and injected with ketamine in Aug. 2019. He died three days later. He was unarmed and body camera footage showed him being brutally wrestled to the ground and gasping for breath.

The officers involved in the unwarranted arrest were put on administrative leave but they were later reinstated when prosecutors decided not to file charges, according to CNN.

An investigation into the case was reopened this summer after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis appointed the state’s attorney general to take a new look.

McClain’s family filed a federal suit against Aurora. But several Aurora police officers and members of the Aurora Fire Rescue were also named as defendants. But their lawyers said in the motion to dismiss that while McClain’s death was tragic, “deliberate or discriminatory acts or omissions” were not the cause of his death, the Associated Press reported.

Activists have sent out social media messages asking people to contact Aurora city attorney Daniel Brotzman in protest of the motion.

Meanwhile, three officers who were fired by the Aurora Police Department after posing for a photo mocking McClain’s death, are expected to appear at a hearing in December to be reinstated. However, a Change.org petition was signed by more than 60,000 people who want the three of them, identified as Officers Kyle Dittrich, Erica Marrero, and Jaron Jones, to remain off the force.

“If these officers are reinstated it will let the world know that Aurora does not want justice to be served,” Aurora resident Darlene Jones, who started the petition, told the Denver Gazette. “Aurora Police Department will be letting down Elijah McClain's family, his friends and all those who stood up with love and support.”

Google launched question hub for US publishers

Google Question Hub, accessible at questionhub.withgoogle.com, is now open for US-based publishers to sign up for. In 2018, Google launched Question Hub in regions where the company found it did not have enough content in its search index to answer searchers’ questions.

Google then started showing this box to searchers last year but told us it was for COVID related queries, but it was much broader than COVID queries.

What is Question Hub? Google says “Question Hub is a tool that enables creators to create richer content by leveraging unanswered questions. Question Hub collects these unanswered user questions and surfaces them to bloggers, writers, and content creators like you.”

It is basically a way for Google to enable searchers to tell it that the search results provided are not answering the query. Then, Google takes those questions and feeds them to publishers, who, in turn, can create content that does answer the query.

Now available to US publishers. Previously, Google launched Question Hub in 2018 for publishers in India (Hindi, English), Indonesia (Bahasa Indonesia), and Nigeria (English). Google has updated its FAQs to say it is now available also in the United States for English.

I tried it, and yes, I am able to access it for sites I have verified in Google Search Console.

What it looks like. Here are some screenshots of the tool, but if you want more screenshots, I posted a lot more on my personal blog.

Find questions that searchers want answers to in Question Hub
Create content and submit the URL of that content that answers the question
You can see how well that content performs in Google Search

Why we care. This can be an excellent way for publishers to identify content that searchers are looking for, but do not find useful search results for in Google.

In my case, I searched for Google Search-related topics that searchers could not find answers for and I was able to find a list of questions (as you see from the above screenshots) of content I can create that may solve some searchers’ questions.

Now that this is open to US publishers, many new publishers now have access to this treasure trove of information

If You Have a BVN and It Is Linked to Your SIM Card, Please Read This for Your Own Good

The BVN known as bank verification number is one of the most important thing a bank account owner has. This 11-digit number can be used by fraudsters to take money from your account. If you have a BVN that is linked to any of your SIM Cards, then losing such SIM Card is very dangerous. However, it is not only about losing the SIM Card, using your phone number to transact business online with fraudulent websites is also very dangerous. That is why it is advisable never to disclose your BVN that has been linked to your SIM card. Fraudsters have been able to create fake websites in form of granting loans or doubling your money (Ponzi schemes), and when you fill in your phone number and your BVN, they can have access to your finance. Some of these sites are unauthorized. Beware of websites that do not have the letter “S” included at the back of the http://. Safe websites usually have https://, and the S stands for security. Another things this scammer do is to call your phone after getting your number, and claim that you have certain challenges on your account. They might have been able to know your date of birth probably after checking your Facebook profile, and this might make you think they are genuine. They would then ask for your BVN and since you may have linked your BVN number to the number they call you may be moved to give them. However, this is very wrong. It is advisable that if you have any issue with your bank account you go over to the bank to sort it out. Also if you get a call from anyone claiming you have an issue with your bank, tell them you would go over to the office to settle the issue.

Sowore spends ‘crossover’ in police detention for organising protest Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja Sahara Reporters Publisher, Omoyele Sowore, and other activists have spent the wee hours of the New Year in police custody for holding a protest in Abuja. Sowore had before his arrest, sent out a series of tweets calling on Nigerians to join him on a protest against the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He had tweeted, “How about a crossover protest/uprising tonight? Anyone willing to participate? Pick up a candle and a placard showing your grievances against the regime; let’s upload our short videos and photos across our social media platforms. Let’s welcome the regime to a resolute 2021! “#CrossoverWithProtest against tyrant @mbuhari’s regime, candlelight for #LekkiMassacre; a placard for #EndBadGovernment; procession to usher in #Revolutionary 2021, a fist for victims of repression-frozen bank accounts, malicious prosecution and detention of #Endsars activists. “#Crossoverwithprotest starts at 11.30 till 12.30 am across Nigeria, a candle, a placard and fireworks to usher in a RESOLUTE 2021 in Nigeria! Join with your friends and neighbours ‪#EndSARS. ‪#ObigboMassacre ‪#LekkiMassacre ‪#EndBadGoveranceInNigeria ‪#BuhariTrainwreck ‪#RevolutionNow.” It was learnt that scores of armed policemen around midnight accosted the protesters at Gudu Junction injuring some of them in the process. They were subsequently taken to a police unit infamously known as ‘Abattoir’ in the Lokogoma area of the FCT. Sowore, who was declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International in 2019, was detained for several months by the Buhari regime for allegedly calling for a revolution. He was denied bail several times and even re-arrested inside the Federal High Court. However, he was released after domestic and international pressure in December 2019. The activist is currently standing trial for alleged treason. The Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, Mariam Yusuf, refused to speak when she was contacted for comment on Friday. Sowore’s lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who confirmed the arrest, said he had not been able to locate his client because the police had failed to reveal his location. Falana said there was no basis for the arrest, adding that Sowore had not flouted his bail conditions.
